DIY Faux Leather Belt Pouches

Image
This is the first belt pouch that I made to fit my phone. It's made from these faux leather fabric samples that were in my fabric stash. The sizes are pretty small which meant piecing them together to make the patterns work. This smaller bag is made from 3 separate swatches.  The main part is just a rectangle folded in half and an added strip on one side to make it the correct width. The loop is made very simply by trimming around the raised pattern, folding in half, and sewing firmly to the back half of the main piece. The pockets were done by cutting a swatch in 3 pieces and sewing them one on top of the other in a staggered fashion to the front half on the main piece. Then it was finished by sewing a seam along the side and bottom and turned right side out. The swatches had a soft knit backing so I kept that unlined. The Hydra pin was a gift from my brother :) The second pouch was a design as you go scenario. It's mostly a box with a flap that fits the dimen...

My cell phone and its new home! I'm always trying to do something new with my fabrics, and this is my newest project. It's a cell phone case that features my Cupcakes  design on upholstery weight twill, and some of the lightweight, polyester, crepeback satin fabric I got on E-bay. And I used magnetic beads from an old necklace that I broke forever ago to make the flap closure.  The neat thing about this case is that it's reversible. I'm actually kind of proud of it since I did it all from my own little head. (Using other people's patterns isn't ever as fun as making your own.) Today when I checked my email, I got the Photojojo newsletter. I've been getting it for awhile now, but today as I meandered from link to link on their site I came across this: Bakumatsu Koshen Generator Now you may be asking what does this have to do with fabrics? Inspiration, my friend, inspiration. This is my fabric design Here be Treasure!  after being run through this wondrous generator. It looks amazing! The image that you end up with is rather small and the distressed looking edges don't match up for use as a stand alone fabric design. However, it would be perfect for getting a lovely vintage look to a design element, and you don't have to worry about not being able to enter your fabric in a contest for using a pre-existing vintage/antique photo. Here are a couple more with my baby Richard, just to show what happens with real photographs:
